How it works
Your guide to the assessment processReferral or enquiry
Referrals can be made by email or phone. We’ll guide you through the process and answer any initial questions so you feel comfortable from the start.
Initial contact
Everything will be clearly explained and communicated throughout the process.
We start by asking a few short questions to help us understand your situation and what you need from the assessment. This may include information about your studies, any previous assessments and the areas you’re finding most challenging on your course. This helps us make sure your assessment is tailored to you and gives us a clear picture before your appointment.
If preferred, our psychologist can arrange a free consultation call to discuss your requirements and explain our assessment process. This provides an opportunity to decide whether our service is the right fit for your needs. If we’re not right for you, we’ll try and signpost you to somewhere that is.
If you choose to proceed, we will arrange the assessment appointment and send the relevant documentation.
Psychological assessment
You’ll meet with our friendly, qualified psychologist at your appointment in Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne. We aim to help you feel at ease throughout as we understand some people can feel nervous in these situations. We use clear, professional and straightforward language, avoiding unnecessary jargon, to ensure the process is comfortable, accessible and meaningful.
Assessments are carried out face-to-face. They can be completed in a single day, with breaks as required, or across separate sessions on different days, depending on individual needs.
The assessment includes a structured clinical interview alongside a series of psychological measures designed to build a comprehensive understanding of your learning profile, strengths and support needs. No preparation is required.
You will also receive feedback on the day, including an overview of potential findings, along with discussion of recommended support and academic strategies to help you move forward with confidence.
Report & recommendations
At the end of the assessment, we will discuss the results with you and explore strategies that may work best for your needs. We will then provide a clear, practical and academic-focused report with evidence-based recommendations and guidance. Reports are typically issued within four weeks of the assessment. Your report can be used to access support at university or college, including learning adjustments and funding such as Disabled Students’ Allowance (if applicable).
